The Philadelphia Antiques & Art Show is returning to The Navy Yard April 21-23.
This long-standing and respected show which has experienced some struggles in recent years seems to have gained new footing. After a 2014 move to the Convention Center and a hiatus in 2015, the show returned to The Navy Yard last year. Once limited exclusively to antiques, the qualifying criteria has shifted somewhat and last year the show added an array of contemporary art.
In all, this year’s show features 59 dealers, including seven that haven’t exhibited at the show before. Items offered will include a wide range of periods and styles including antique pieces of American, English, Asian and Continental material from the 17th through the mid-20th centuries.
The show will also bring in a lineup of expert speakers, authors and historians; and a historic American flag exhibit — a tribute to Philadelphia’s new Museum of the American Revolution, opening to the public for the first time during the same week. One of the most anticipated programs is a presentation by Special Agent Jake Archer on the Show’s first day. Assigned to the FBI’s elite Art Crime Team, Archer is one of 16 investigators focused on art and cultural property crimes – theft, fraud, looting and trafficking across state and international lines. His discussion will be Friday, April 21 at 2 p.m.
Following a Gala Preview Party on Thursday, April 20 sponsored by The Haverford Trust Company, the Show will be open to the public April 21 through April 23.
