(1839-1927) Born in Germany, Frederick Ferdinand Schafer was born in Braunschweig Frederick Ferdinand Schafer is known for his paintings of California and the Pacific Northwest. With a studio in San Francisco and homes in Alameda and Oakland Schafer spent summers sketching in the Northwest U.S., British Columbia, and Alaska. A member of the San Francisco Art Association, Schafer’s work is held in the collections of Art Museum of Greater Victoria, California Historical Society, Crocker Art Museum, The Oakland Museum, Seattle Art Museum and elsewhere.
