A retrospective show by Dallas artist Viola Delgado provided an excellent reason for a first visit to the Latino Cultural Center in Dallas. However, upon arriving we heard a transformer blow. The lights went out on what the artist noted was the first retrospective for a Latina Artist in Dallas. Wine could not be served in the dark and everyone was told to evacuate to the courtyard. Chairs were offered to the “elderly,” but who dared relate?
Before long the lights returned, the wine was flowing, and her magnificent paintings and prints were on view.
The Oak Cliff duo known as Chuck and George had their friends create work for a collaborative show at Centraltrack in Deep Ellum. The gallery walls seemed empty when we entered, so much that I wondered just how conceptual it was. Entering the L shaped domain with lime and turquoise stripes painted on the walls, the result may have been conceptual, but in a maximum way.
A week prior, Valley House was the location for an opening featuring recent work by David Dreyer. Alumni support was out in force from Southern Methodist University, where Dreyer received his MFA.
An exhibition at Grey Matters Gallery featured the work of owner Vance Wingate.
And at RO2 in Downtown Dallas, scores came out to see the food-themed work of Sarah Atlee and James Zamora.
