The Dallas Morning News is reporting that the city’s museum of art is interested in purchasing a work by da Vinci. Dubbed “Spooky Jesus” by ArtInfo.com, the painting is currently in possession of the Dallas Museum of Art, but not on public view. Properly referenced as Christ as Salvator Mundi, it was re-attributed to the artist last July and was included in a London exhibit on the old master that ended in February. Owned by a group of private dealers, the destination-painting would set the museum and donors back some $200 million. Would it be a fiscal challenge for the museum? Dallas Morning News reporter Michael Granberry asked museum director Maxwell Anderson who said “I think that you could answer that question yourself.”
