Phyfe Sideboard at Auction

Thomaston Phyfe Sideboard Boscobel

Thomaston Phyfe Sideboard BoscobelWith all the brouhaha over the Duncan Phyfe show at the Met, you don’t expect you could find a attributed Phyfe sideboard for sale in the price range of a ten year old used car. If you’re visited the show, or even if you haven’t, you may want to watch this auction. Thomaston Place is offering a New York Sheraton figured mahogany shaped front sideboard, attributed to Duncan Phyfe, first quarter 19th c, with raised backsplash in what it calls fine condition with minor shrinkage cracks to panel veneers. Thomaston says a very similar example is housed at Boscobel, Garrison New York Hudson Valley mansion, (see Plate 40 in ‘Federal Furniture and Decorative Arts at Boscobel’ by Berry B. Tracy, 1981.) Starting bid is just $2,500.
