Yet another show about antiques is coming to the airwaves and will focus on price. It’s Worth What, a summer reality series on NBC will be produced by Lara Spencer and hosted by comedian Cedric “The Entertainer.”

NBC says It’s Worth What is a game show that taps into America’s love for cost and value, such as the hidden gems found in one’s attic. A pair of contestants is taken through a series of challenges that escalate in level of difficulty. As a result, they are tasked with discerning the price of the items in each round. If they successfully complete the challenges, contestants can win up to $1 million.

Picture the Antiques Road Show meets The Price is Right. Just back to Google Documents typing from browsing some auction results the phrase It’s Worth What could have come to mind, but mostly because American furniture values have dropped.

Maybe the quality of the actual content will surprise, but methinks we don’t need another television show that sets the public out on picking expeditions to find treasures they can then sell and take shopping at Ikea. Isn’t there a show in the works that will foster the appreciating decorative arts and how living with antiques can enrich a home and life?

  1. And another is in the works – it’s a pickers race. Interestingly, since January, my PR company has received at least one casting call a month from antiques shows in production. Most, however, seem to focus on “who do you think will lose it first” aspect.
