It wasn’t too long ago when Antiques Week in Nashville drew perhaps the biggest crowds of any Americana show in the country. As one dealer I spoke to at the Original Miami Beach Antique Show described it, the events were like lightning in a bottle. This year promoters are making some moves to reinvigorate Nashville Antiques Week by launching some cross promotions and by running a shuttle bus between the Heart of Country Show and the Antiques at Music Valley. The promoters of the shows, Susan Hunkins (Heart of Country) and Jon Jenkins (Music Valley) took some time away from their preparations to talk a bit about the shows, their history and the energy that’s building for this year’s event later this month. We also spoke about what exactly Americana is, what appeal it has to an increasingly diverse American populace and heard a number of interesting facts. Did you know Martha Stewart catered the first Heart of Country show 30 years ago and served catfish nuggets? Listen to the podcast.
