It’s hard to think of a better location for an antique show than historic Williamsburg. The Holiday Antiques Show will be held here this November for the 29th time. Dealers come from 13 states and the UK to offer their wares and be part of the show. As lucky as the vendors and their clients are to be here, Williamsburg is fortunate to be host to such an outstanding group of vendors. Most travel all over the country participating in antiques shows and fairs. They journey from Maine to Texas and from South Carolina to Tennessee.
This year’s show will feature some new dealers with a focus on antiques for investment. It should appeal to new collectors who would like to incorporate something of value along with artistic merit to decorate their homes which are more modern in style. New to this year’s show is Dave White from Maine with a collection of nautical antiques.
Victoria Brock from England and Amanda Harman from America are the owners of Fanshawe Blaine. “Different cultures fuse together our diverse collection of unique antiques” is the way these two young women describe themselves. They arrived on the antiques show circuit just last year with their eclectic mix of English, European and Eastern 17th, 18th and 19th century furnishings, textiles. and accessories. The items featured by this pair are fitting for modern settings as well as more traditional ones. They should appeal to the under forty group who is missing in today’s antiques market. We are happy to have them in Williamsburg .
Another new dealer is Grindle and Caputo from Maine who show and sell antique hooked rugs for investment. These fine old handmade rugs are used as artwork and hang in modern homes offering a unique presentation. As art goes, they are affordable and will increase in value.
Marie Miller from Vermont is a well known and reputable quilt dealer. She will offer some graphic quilts which also should be displayed on the wall for art’s sake.
The antiques show is a favorite for residents and appeals to many of the guests to the Historic Triangle who visit during Thanksgiving. There is a wide array of merchandise including estate jewelry and silver, small trinkets suitable for gift giving, oriental carpets, paintings, clocks and furniture both period and country. Since it is the beginning of the Christmas season, it is appropriate to think of gift giving .
In addition to the show there will be an appraisal clinic held on Sunday with the proceeds to be donated to a charitable cause. The Holiday Antiques Show will be held at the Kingsmill Marriott on November 26-28.
