Finding the Affordable for Young Collectors in Antiques in Charlottesville

On the second day of Antiques in Charlottesville strong sales of furniture were noted.  This seemed to be a a very welcome and unexpected event. Some visitors came from yesterday’s NBC Channel 29 news. Here is a slide show of our photo coverage from the exhibition.

With the generous help from the dealers in Antiques in Charlottesville, UAA team presents here a short video of finding affordable for young collectors. As George Stout said in the interview: “Oil paintings are not for everyone,” the graphic print from the 50’s, silhouette cut which preceded the invention of photography, chromolithograph prints and even dish-washer safe Chinese export porcelains, are not much more expensive than a date with a dinner and two  movie tickets, and most of all they would ignite interests in collecting because of their practicality and decorative beauty. Dealers were patient and passionate to cater the need of young collectors with a budget.

The show will open on Sunday from 11Am till 4PM.

Thank you for this posting which focuses on the younger collector. There are many genres of antiques which can appeal to the beginning collector who is on a budget. Exposure and education are so important in allowing dealers to cultivate their next generation of collector. What they are interested in may change from earlier generations, but the need to introduce material in an accessible and fun way is key. I hope you consider doing this type of reporting again!
