25th Anniversary Date Slated for Cincinnati Modernism Show

20th Century Cincinnati – Show & Sale of Vintage Modern Design returns to the Sharonville Convention Center on the weekend of February 23 and 24, 2019.

Since 1995 (long before the terms “retro” or “mod” had entered the contemporary decorating lexicon) 20th Century Cincinnati has been celebrating the avant-garde design trends that marked the past century: the Art Deco, Streamline, Machine Age, Mid-Century Modern, and Op/Pop eras. Now after 25 years, this unique retrospective is itself celebrated as a destination for followers from all over the United State who favor modernist art, furnishings, and fashions.

20th Century Cincinnati is best known for an extensive selection of authentic vintage modern furniture and lighting. The show’s 70 exhibitors also offer an eye-popping assortment of decorative accessories such as paintings, posters, art glass, pottery, sculptures, dinnerware and textiles.

A vintage chic fashion element features several outstanding jewelry, clothing and apparel dealers and includes both designer and casual offerings. Nostalgic pop culture memorabilia adds playfulness to a showroom floor that is also a serious study of the era’s most important architects, designers, and manufacturers. Most 20th Century Cincinnati dealers offer a variety of merchandise at a broad range of price points that will fit every budget. Additionally, all merchandise is guaranteed as represented.

Legendary designer Wayne Husted will appear as 20th Century Cincinnati’s Special Guest at the 2019 show. Husted is best known by collectors as Blenko Glass Company’s lead designer during their prolific mid-century period, having designed some of their most iconic modernist forms. His career after Blenko is equally impressive, including design positions and projects completed for many other U.S. and international manufacturers. At age 91, Husted is still going strong designing for several West Coast glass studios. His Jazz in Glass exhibit at the show will include examples of his vintage works for Blenko, his contemporary glass designs, and a trove of stories relating his experiences of working with many of the past century’s signature designers and manufacturers. In addition, Wayne will be available to sign vintage pieces of his designs brought to the show by collectors.

An exclusive two-hour preview will kick-off 20th Century Cincinnati activities at 9:00 a.m. Saturday. Advance tickets are $25 and may be acquired online, by phone, or by mail. Preview tickets at the door on Saturday are $30. Tickets include the early shopping period, complimentary coffee/juice bar, and a full weekend pass.

Regular show hours on Saturday and Sunday are from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Adult admission is $8.00. Passes are good for both days. Children under age 18 are admitted for free.
