(1864-1939) Born in London, Dawson studied in Paris before coming to the U.S. in 1893. He lived in several U.S. states and Quebec, Canada before settling in San Antonio in 1926. Dawson-Watson is best known for his paintings of cactus. In 1927, he won the largest cash prize in American Art, the Texas Competitive Wildflower Competition. The winning painting, Glory of the Morning, was presented to the Lotos Club in New York by Edgar B. Davis. Watson also designed furniture. His settee is on display at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. His paintings are held in the collections of the Witte Museum in San Antonio and at the San Antonio Art League.
