Stolen Matisse Recovered in Miami

Matisse Sofia Imber Contemporary Art Museum

Reports say a painting by Matisse stolen almost a decade ago has been recovered by the FBI in Miami. The painting, the 1925 “Odalisque in Red Pants” was swapped for a reproduction at the Sofia Imber Contemporary Art Museum in Caracas, Venezuela. FBI agents posing as art collectors are said to have recovered the painting at the Loews Hotel in Miami Beach this week. It was not realized the painting was missing until 2002 when it was offered for sale.
