Antiquing In New Orleans

With all the great American furniture that goes through Neil Auctions and New Orleans Auction, I expected to find more of it in the antique shops of the big easy. At M.S. Rau I we did find a significant assortment of pieces of the American Rococo variety by Belter, Meeks and others, but little in the classical realm.

Still there’s plenty of things to see to fill a day or two. We made it to Royal Street and Chartres Street, both located in the historic French Quarter, and Magazine Street in the Garden District. A favorite shop there was Bush’s Antiques—a shop that’s been open since 1969 and seems anything but stale.
