Today marks the opening of the new exhibition “Public Treasures/Private Visions: Hudson River School Masterworks from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Select Private Collections” at Pennsylvanian Academy of Fine Arts.

The exhibition includes works by ten noted Hudson River School artists including Thomas Cole, Albert Bierstadt, Asher Brown Durand, and Edwin Church. Some luminism painters such as Frederick Kensset and Martin Heade are also presented.
PAFA describes that the Metropolitan Museum of Art is reciprocating with paintings from the Hudson River School in appreciation for a group of paintings that PAFA is lending next year. (Does this mean that Met is going to organize an Hudson River school exhibition next year?) Since the painting galleries at Met is still under renovation. PAFA is not the only museum that benefits showing masterworks which are seldom lent outside of New York City. New Britain Museum of American Art at New Britain, CT is also having an exhibition “Hudson River Paintings from the Metropolitan Museum of Art” which ends in Sept, 2010.
