Sallie Kyle

(1866-1954) Born in Temple, Texas, Sallie Kyle studied at the Academie Colarossi in Paris, France in 1909 as well as in New York and Chicago. Kyle taught at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas (1908 -1911) at Baylor in Waco (1911-1920) at a college in Oklahoma, at Crescent College in Arkansas, at Lander College and Maryland’s Women’s College before moving back to Texas. She taught and painted in her native Temple, Texas in her final years, dying in 1954 at age 87. Her paintings are often signed S. P. Kyle. Her family owned a large furniture store in Temple.
